Cala D’Hort has to be one of the most beautiful and tranquil places to visit on the Island of Ibiza…
I feel spiritually connected to the natural beauty of this special little area of Ibiza, it’s laid back vibe is the perfect retreat for getting some R&R away from the bustling local towns.
The beach itself is sandy to one side, pebbly to the other with a quaint wooden jetty that leads to a small concrete platform – if you like meditating this place would be the ideal spot for connecting to the beauty that nature has on offer.
The pebbly side of the beach comes with its own little surprises, the sheer sounds of the waves crashing then drawing back from those pebbles is spectacular, and again another reason why this place blows my mind.
In summer it is extremely popular despite its remote location. There are many who flock to the inspiring view and tranquil setting of Cala d’hort, old and young locals alike, families and couples from all over the world visit here. However it’s only accessible by car, walking or cycling, so if you do choose to drive it’s wise to know in advance that there is very limited parking, and getting there early is a good idea. We chose to take a taxi as we were staying in the nearby resort of Cala Tarida, which cost €26 each way and worth every cent.
There is a beach bar which has plentiful seating and a great selection of food and drink, again this can get busy in peak season, so it might be handy to book in advance, but it’s good to know they also do take away which is handy if it’s especially busy.
Despite it getting busy at times, it never feels over crowded like other beaches around the island but I would say the best time to visit would be May, June and September.
There are some friendly African men and woman walking around selling the most beautiful cotton beach blankets for around €15, you can barter to €10 of your feeling cheeky. I highly recommend purchasing one if the budget allows – not only will it allow you to settle down on a fabulous beach throw to enjoy your day, but you’re in turn helping the families of these hard working men and women thrive.
Walk up to the top of the hill if you can handle the incline and you will find the pirates look out, a spectacular place to view the area from different angle all together!
If you are taking a taxi you could ask the driver to stop there and keep the meter running, it would be worth the money if you can’t make the walk uphill and you don’t want to miss out on that view, it’s especially enchanting later on in the evening at Sunset.
Tip: If you’re taking a taxi why not ask the driver about the real life Cave man who lives down by Atlantis? A detour comes highly recommend! Atlantis beach is another enchanted and magical cove that is well worth a visit, but it’s not for the faint hearted! A steep decline and a labyrinth of coves, rocks and sea pools awaits you!
